Rotunda forms part of a larger project of Superbenches conceived to regenerate Kvarnbacken Park in Jakobsberg, which covers an area of 7 acres north of central Stockholm.
The proposal for Rotunda consists of offset arc structures which provide seating and enclosure to offer another layer of tranquillity within the park.
Circularity is adopted to create privacy within the public space. Consequently, Rotunda suggests a microamphitheatre with dual spatial qualities marked dichromatically – an internal enclosure in blue for moments of privacy and serenity, while making room from which to enjoy surrounding vistas on the external aspect of structure that is finished in an earthy grey.
The proposal encourages public participation and forms part of the Kalejdohill urban regeneration platform. The initiative preceeds redevelopment of the area by property developers HSB, Veidekke Bostad and Einar Mattsson.
Commissioned by Kalejdohill.
